Federal officials giving depositions in Jill Kelley privacy suit
Last month, at Justice Department headquarters in Washington, FBI agent Adam Malone underwent hours of questioning in a case so contentious his deposition was halted in a disagreement among the attorneys present. The case arises from the e-mail investigation that revealed the affair behind the resignation of CIA Director David Petraeus. The plaintiffs are Jill Kelley, a former honorary consul who became known to the world as the Bayshore Boulevard socialite and friend of top military leaders,...

Speculation Surrounds Campaign Finance Reform
Some Democrats saw campaign finance reform passed by the Legislature this year as helpful in their bid to defeat Gov. Rick Scott but, in fact, it could help Republicans more, campaign finance experts and Florida political figures say. Meanwhile, watchdogs who track money in politics differ sharply over whether the reform bill will do what its proponents claim — lessen the influence of special interest money in politics.

Election Deflates Ethics Charge
The prosecutor says he still thinks Tom Gallagher's stock trades were illegal. Tom Gallagher won his ethics case Friday, mainly because he lost his bid for governor. The Commission on Ethics dropped a stock trading case against Gallagher, the state's former chief financial officer, but not before the prosecuting attorney said he still thinks Gallagher broke the law. Scott Tozian, a Tampa lawyer brought in to prosecute the case, recommended dropping the charges that Gallagher improperly invest...

The Politics Of Strange Bedfellows

The Politics Of Strange Bedfellows
Tampa trial lawyer Tom Scarritt apparently endeared himself to colleagues during the first year of his two-year term on the Florida Ethics Commission. They elected him chairman a week or so ago. It's a bit of a surprise for some political observers. Some expected John Grant, the com mission's vice chairman and a former state senator from Tampa, to take over as commission chairman for the 2005-06 term. Only Gov. Jeb Bush didn't reappoint Grant, a Republican, to a second term.
